How do I stop my dog jumping up at people?

A dog that jumps up must be ignored instead of being told to get down. This is because even shouting at the dog or pushing him away is giving attention which is what the dog wants.

Puppies should be taught not to jump up despite their "cute factor" from an early age again ignoring this behaviour is the way to go.

Any Tips?
With puppies, you can leave a trailing line on them (when you are there to supervise) and step onDog Training Stop My Dog Jumping Up At People it when the puppy approaches. This way the dog cannot jump up and learns to sit to get our attention instead.

Another technique is to anticipate the dogs behaviour and as they start to jusp, simply take one step backwards. This will result in the dogs front paws missing your legs and then going instantly back to being on 4 paws.

Finally, with the very excitable dog, using products such as the pet corrector should stop the behaviour instantly. The key to using this product is to not let the dog see you have it. As they jump up and actually touch you, you should release the air from the pet corrector without them seeing which, will in most cases, result in all four of your dogs feet being back on the floor again. If they persist, reapeat this two to three times. This method can of course be used in conjuction with any of the other two suggested.

The final point here is that when the dog has stopped jumping up and sat down, it must be calmly praised thus showing that they will get the attention craved, but by sitting, not jumping.
