Puppies must learn from the start that even gentle biting of humans is totally unacceptable. Sure they have to learn bite inhabition but this should always be done with a toy.
Any Tips?
If when playing with your puppy they start to bite you, you should stop paying any attention to the puppy. If it mouths you again, leave the room for 30 seconds so that the dog learns that play biting actually results in loss of attention.
Your puppy will soon learn and the biting should stop fairly quickly but you must ensure that all members of your household do exactly the same thing as allowing this action once will set your puppy back thinking it is OK.
You could also try using any one of the anti-chew products that are on the market. These are safe to use, even with young pups and discretely sprayed on the hand will put a nasty taste in the pups mouth when he tries to mouth you again.
Although we don't generally advocate the over use of dog training products, in many situations, a little extra help is needed with this kind of problem as it is important to teach your dog that this behaviour is totally unacceptable from a very young age as the last thing you want is to have them still be biting people, even in play, when they become fully grown.
