Having a pet insurance policy could allow cat and dog owners to relax throughout the fireworks season, a price comparison site has said.
According to Moneysupermarket.com, the period around Bonfire Night can be a very traumatic and dangerous time for animals.
However, the website stated that people with cats and dogs would be much more likely to enjoy peace of mind if they have a pet insurance policy in place.
Julie Owens, spokeswoman for Moneysupermarket.com, said: "Fireworks can cause distress, disorientation and panic, which can in turn lead to accidents and animals going astray."
The website suggested that cat and dog owners ensure their pets are kept indoors while a firework display is underway.
Moneysupermarket.com also recommended that they switch on music to keep out the sound of fireworks.
Meanwhile, the RSPCA has advised pet owners to ensure their cats and dogs are fitted with a microchip, as this could help them be tracked down if they bolt and get lost.
