Should they stay or should they go? This was the question facing former Clash drummer Topper Headon when the issue of neutering his pooch pal Yowsah to complement behavioural training was raised. The musician decided to go ahead - and has backed an RSPCA campaign to encourage other owners of Staffordshire bull terriers to follow suit.
"When it was suggested to me that I have him neutered I was at first reluctant as I wouldn't want to be neutered myself," he said. However, the procedure left Headon with a "changed dog" who was more content and easier to take out. The RSPCA is offering the treatment for free to Staffordshire bull terriers in the Deal area of Kent. Branch advisor Becky Blackmore explained that it can help to prevent unwanted litters and complement behavioural training.
Charity the Dogs Trust also offers a subsidised neutering scheme in parts of Britain. Information on behavioural training can be found here |
