A charity has sought to raise awareness of a service which provides dog food to the pets of domestic violence victims. The Dogs Trust Freedom Project helps to arrange emergency foster care for canines whose owners have fled their homes in fear. All dog food and vets bills are paid for under the scheme, which has strict rules about anonymity, meaning owners are not able to be traced through their dogs. Posting on its official blog, the charity said many people are unaware of this service, which it stated is "one of the most interesting things we do". A video added to the blog sees one of the charity's foster carers reveal what pets can expect when they are taken into care. The charity said: "As soon as we receive a referral from a refuge or social services we're able to collect the dog and personally deliver him to a volunteer foster carer." Along with the Freedom Project, the Dogs Trust also cares for 16,000 canines at 17 rehoming centres around the UK. Click here for more information on dog food |
