A cat owner who has stumped up a £1,000 reward for the safe return of his pet has said the animal is his best friend. Devastated David Carver lost his moggy mate earlier this month, although several people have said they have seen the animal wandering the streets of Newcastle-under-Lyme, reports Stoke's Sentinel. Mr Carter moved home three weeks ago and the feline is believed to have been checking out his old haunts. The cat - who shares his name with Chinese dictator chairman Mao Zedong - had been helping his owner get over illness before hitting the road. Mr Carter, 50, has had numerous heart attacks in recent months. He said: "You love animals just as much as you do people, they're flesh and blood. I'm just really desperate to get him back and I don't know what I'm going to do without him."
Those who lose an animal are able to add its name to the UK National Missing Pets Register.
It was set up five years ago by Steve Dawson after he suffered the pain of losing an animal.
